Production Manager

We are a market leader in Aerospace composite manufacturing, working with exciting technologies and materials to design and build some of the world’s most advanced composite structures. We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to join our Operations team and run the production function at one of our sites in Crewkerne, Somerset.

The Production Manager is responsible for driving and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the site operation by reducing non-conformance, increasing margins, maximising output, minimising inventory and improving weekly / monthly forecast accuracy.


 - Ensure the orderbook requirements, as determined by planning and account management processes, are met by the effective deployment of appropriate Production resources.

 - Liaise with the Planning team to ensure individual jobs are started on time to meet downstream delivery requirements.

 - Ensure Operatives are assigned production jobs appropriate to their ability, and the requirements of the job are understood in terms of methods, time and quality requirements to ensure all operations are carried out and stamped in accordance with the defined manufacturing instructions, the relevant Quality Management Systems and customer requirements.

 - Ensure jobs assigned to Operatives are capable of being progressed.

 - Ensure the site Production team is well-directed and performance is managed, with clear guidelines to their own job responsibilities and support in achieving these, in terms of communication, training and development, and the organisation of the site’s workload and resources.

 - Identify and support training and recruitment activity to meet business objectives.

 - Monitor individual performance and report planned vs actual.

 - Oversee the production of work and identify opportunities for improvement and potential errors in manufacturing data.

 - Ensure that all activities in and around the site are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with company procedures.

 - Manage and control indirect spend to annual budgets.

 - In liaison with the senior management team, manage and control maintenance activities for all plant and buildings.

 - Support management and reporting processes, including Gemba walkabouts, visual management boards, capacity / progress reports, etc.

 - Implement and manage site-level CI processes as required by the senior management team.

 - Work closely with the other Crewkerne-based site Production Manager to optimise process, balance capacity and reduce costs.

 - Liaise closely with Planning, Procurement, Operations and Quality functions to support delivery of Production objectives.

 - Fulfill the roles and responsibilities defined for the management team within the Business Continuity Management System

The successful candidate must have/be:

 - Strong Production management experience in an Aerospace environment.

 - Good practical understanding of composite materials and processes.

 - AS9100 Business Quality Management & SC21 Awareness.

 - Computer literate, Windows based & MRP Knowledge preferred.

 - A strong team leader; delegates, coaches and mentors within the team.

 - Practical and positive with a flexible and conscientious “get it done” approach to work load; acts as a role model to others.

 - Pragmatic and proactive approach to problem-solving and contingency planning.

 - A safety-conscious approach to work.

 - Continuous Improvement, zero defect and customer focused mind-set.
