Production Manager

We are a market leader in Aerospace and Defence, working with exciting technologies to make some of the world’s most advanced composite structures. We are seeking a Production Manager to join our growing team at our site in Crewkerne, Somerset

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the role will be responsible for managing the day to day activities of the Production team through the optimisation of skills, efficiencies and best working practices ensuring delivery of product, quality and customer service whilst promoting right first-time philosophy across the team.

The role is accountable for the day to day management of the Production team including delivery of workload schedules; resource planning; support to Operations, Engineering, Quality, Site Services and Business Development activities whilst promoting a strong Environmental, Health and Safety culture.


  • Promote and demonstrate on time, right first-time quality and customer service philosophy across the team and Company
  • Work with the Head of Operations and Site Services team champion to develop, implement and work to continually improve safe systems of work and ways of working which support the business relating to E, H&S, Site Maintenance and Continuous Improvement
  • Partake in the Company’s E, H&S Safety Committee meetings, owning and cascading any agreed actions as required to your team, ensuring management to resolution
  • Conduct team briefings covering all issues including Environment, Health & Safety (E,H&S), Quality, 5S, Absence and Targets
  • Day to day management of the Production team including workload; resource planning; support to Business Development, Engineering and Operations activities
  • Engage with cross functional teams in the business and with external customers, suppliers and other service providers to deliver results, thus, contributing to the Company’s performance
  • Contribute to and attend various meetings/forums and action agreed commitments
  • Develop and continually evaluate suitable skills matrices for team and Company.
  • Support the Head of Operations as required with monitoring operating costs, developing and managing / reporting key KPIs to ensure production targets are achieved
  • Support the Business Development Team for bid prospects and feasibility, advising impacts to manufacturing activities / successful outcomes as necessary
  • Working with the Head of Operations, provide input in to project plans and budget profiles to ensure delivery of milestones to agreed cost targets and timescales
  • Identify and agree opportunities for existing and any new Capital Equipment Investment with Senior Management team as appropriate
  • Ensure the team understand Production Schedule expectations and is effectively deployed to achieve Schedule and Production Targets on a daily basis, and has the relevant resources to do so, including tooling, instructions, parts, materials, consumables, packaging and part-finished products to achieve build plans
  • Achieve on-time-in-full delivery to all customers, leading all Production, encompassing agreed capital and process development projects and provision of technical knowledge
  • Drive Continuous Improvement activities in quality, cycle times, process improvement and machine availability using Lean techniques and Value Engineering
  • Carry out regular site monitoring to ensure good practice standards are maintained

Ensure compliance of self and team against SOPs, Standards and Procedures, for example, that the relevant AS9100 standards and underlying Engineering Procedures are adhered to.

  • Proven experience of composites manufacturing processes including Lean and responsiveness to customer needs
  • Technical experience (SME) with clear understanding of associated engineering, scientific and other technical information, with proven experience and application of advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts (preferable)
  • Self-supervising within the expectations of Senior Management with outcomes reviewed at Senior level
